In this week’s handle with care, morning show drama, and how the Academy is preparing for Swifties to break Oscar ratings records.
It’s that time of year: Spotify Wrapped is out!! I wrote about my 2021 Wrapped last year, and it’s actually one of my best performing newsletters to date. I’m back to analyze everything about my 2022 Wrapped, and goals I have for next year’s. These were my results:
Taylor Swift is my top artist for the fourth year in a row, a fate I had accepted on January 1, 2022. I thought Beyoncé would be second, but Harry Styles sneaked his way through! Bey ended up being third, followed by Charli XCX and Florence + The Machine. I do listen to a lot of Tayla, to be fair. Since all her music hits for me, she’s just a very reliable option for when I’m in the mood to listen to something. It’s similar to Beyoncé, too. They’re both mainstays on my workout playlists!
Usually how it goes is if an artist releases what I declare a Life-Changing Album, I listen to it on repeat, all the time. Beyoncé released RENAISSANCE (my album of the year), Harry Styles released Harry’s House, Charli XCX released CRASH, and Florence + The Machine released Dance Fever. It’s kind of amazing how CRASH held on through the spring, summer, and fall, because I was also listening to a lot of Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Wallows, and Sabrina Carpenter.
My top five songs were insane: four Harry’s House tracks and “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé. A Beyoncérry sandwich! Obviously, I ran my mouth about “Grapejuice” any chance I got, so it was my top song of the year. Beyoncé’s comeback and the release of “BREAK MY SOUL” was one of the top music moments of the year, so I was overjoyed to see it at number three!!
If you’re curious, six-ten is: “Want Want” by Maggie Rogers, “Midnight Rain” by Taylor Swift, “Used To Know Me” by Charli XCX, “Matilda” by Harry Styles, and “VIRGO’S GROOVE” by Beyoncé. “Midnight Rain” is off of Swift’s newest album Midnights, and apparently Spotify was only tracking it for ten days before the Wrapped cut-off date. So… perceive me how you will!!! At least it wasn’t “right where you left me” again, which also ranked high on my top ten and had been out for nearly a year.
I have a bone to pick with this slide HOWEVER:
My main goal for next year is to listen to more music. I only had 10K minutes, and that’s actually something I’m insecure about!! Also, I want to see if I can get into Taylor Swift’s top 0.005% of fans, because this year I got in her top 3%. Surely it’ll be easy to do if she releases 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023!!!
RIP
Christine McVie, iconic member of Fleetwood Mac, passed away this week after battling an illness. She was 79 years old. Stevie Nicks paid tribute to her with a handwritten letter, along with handwritten lyrics to Haim’s song “Hallelujah.”
High Infidelity
Good Morning America hosts T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were seen on a “romantic getaway” this week. They both have children and are married to other people. When the news broke, they deactivated their Instagram accounts.
Baby, Keke Palmer is having a BABY!!!
The actress unveiled her baby bump during her debut Saturday Night Live monologue last night. I screamed!!
The former child star also helped reunite Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who also got their start on Nickelodeon. They did this very funny sketch together last night:
This week in: Get a job!!! Stay away from her!!!
Drake followed Bones and All actress Taylor Russell on Instagram:
Jack Harlow met Dua Lipa at the Variety Hitmakers brunch yesterday:
Variety exclusively reported that the Oscars will air all 23 categories on-air for the next ceremony. For the 2022 ceremony, the Academy aired previously recorded acceptances for eight categories, including Best Live Action Short Film. And since I have an obligation to make everything about Taylor Swift, there is buzz that she’ll receive a nomination for directing her All Too Well short film. With a nomination, Swift will certainly make an appearance on the carpet, thus getting all the Swifties to watch the broadcast, meaning high ratings!
