In this week’s handle with care, my thoughts on “Harry’s House!!!!” Plus, Taylor Swift becoming a doctor, and Rihanna becoming a mother.
ICYMI: Harry Styles released his third studio album, “Harry’s House,” on Friday. I like mentioning to everyone that asks that his debut album is my favorite, and no other song in his discography can even touch “Two Ghosts,” but “Harry’s House” is very much becoming my favorite album of his. I listened to it three times in a row yesterday, I had the time!
The lead single “As It Was” found a life of its own since its release nearly two months ago. I didn’t know what to expect from the album after hearing that song, but could kind of guess after he debuted “Boyfriends” and “Late Night Talking” at Coachella. Even then I was really surprised when I listened to it top to bottom on Thursday night. “Music For a Sushi Restaurant” is another impeccable album opener. I have to learn how to scat now!
I took note of my top five songs after my first listen: “Grapejuice,” “Matilda,” “Keep Driving,” “Little Freak,” and “Late Night Talking.” I will always be a “Grapejuice” stan. If “Grapejuice” has a million fans, I am one of them. If “Grapejuice” has ten fans, I am one of them. If “Grapejuice” only has one fan, it’s me. If “Grapejuice” has no fans, then I am simply dead. There’s just something very romantic about it, and to quote my friend Kiana, “it’s sweet and simple, but in the best way possible – it feels so safe.” We’re both Virgos, and we have deemed it a Virgo song.
“Matilda” made me sad, and I am enamored at the concept of “Keep Driving.” When I listened to the album again yesterday, I was a “Daylight”–”Cinema”–”Satellite” girl. There is something very One Direction-sounding about “Satellite” and “Little Freak” to me. I like doing this dance to “Satellite.”
If I’m listening to “Harry’s House,” please know I am having the best 41 minutes and 59 seconds of my life. Even if I’m listening to “Matilda.” And if you were wondering, my mom’s favorite song is “Late Night Talking,” and she says she likes it more than “Watermelon Sugar,” which is a big deal for her!!
She’s a MOTHER
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed a baby boy into the world on Friday, May 13!! We don’t know the baby’s name yet, but he has a Taurus sun and a Libra moon.
I also just found out that they both threw a rave-themed baby shower in April:
She’s a DOCTOR
Taylor Swift Dr. Taylor Swift received an honorary doctorate from NYU this week, and delivered a commencement speech to the class of 2022. You can read her entire speech here, or watch it here while you can:
Breaking developments (RE: “Barbie”)
We are getting three Barbies and Kens in “Barbie!!” I’ve never said anything bad about Greta Gerwig.
Issa Rae and Hari Nef will also play Barbie, and Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will also play Ken. It’s a crime that I have to wait 14 more months to watch this.
2022 predictions update!!!
In January, I predicted that Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian will get engaged after he leaves “Saturday Night Live” this year. Well… I got the latter half of the prediction right (so far, anyway)!! Davidson is leaving the cast, along with Kyle Mooney, Kate McKinnon, and Aidy Bryant. Their final show aired last night, which was hosted by Natasha Lyonne and featured musical guest Japanese Breakfast.
I also predicted that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would have some sort of scandal this year, and while it hasn’t happened, she did announce her engagement to her longtime partner, Riley Roberts.
The end of an era
The CW’s crown jewel, “Riverdale,” is ending after its seventh season. Cole Sprouse recently told GQ that most of the actors are ready to “wrap it up with a bow.” In honor of this news, I present to you my favorite moment on this show:
The Bachelorette(s)
ABC released the first promo for the next season of “The Bachelorette,” featuring Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia. You already know I will be seated for this on July 11.
Hello!! I had a super busy week. I’m working on something exciting that should be out in the world over the summer! I’ve been feeling so appreciative for the opportunities that have been coming my way recently. I keep a little gratitude jar on my desk that has been filling up with folded blue Post-It notes throughout the year, and this thing I’m being vague about is absolutely in there.
I did end up watching “Conversations with Friends” this week, and I thought it was fine. You know, I’ve never seen Joe Alwyn (Pisces) act in anything before, so I didn’t really know much about him. But as for what Taylor Swift sees in him… I get it now! Also it was worth it to hear “Sidelines” by Phoebe Bridgers in the show. I also watched “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” and it was very silly and fun. Andy Samberg will always be famous. I think I’m going to spend the rest of this weekend listening to “Harry’s House” again, and watching the new all-stars season of “Drag Race.” Thank you all for reading!!
