In this week’s handle with care, Olivia Rodrigo’s new boyfriend and me celebrating the first “Barbie” still!!!!!
As she was on stage at CinemaCon presenting the trailer to her upcoming film “Don’t Worry Darling,” Olivia Wilde was presented with a mysterious manila envelope that read “personal and confidential.” It was widely assumed to be a script, but Deadline later confirmed they were custody papers regarding the two children she has with her ex, Jason Sudeikis.
Deadline also reported that an “unidentified person approached from the front rows and slid a manila envelope across the front of the stage toward her.” Wilde opened it, took a look, and continued presenting the trailer in which Harry Styles was watermelon sugar-ing Florence Pugh. Kind of like when I was in high school and my math teachers would return an exam I failed face down on my desk, and I would look at it for two seconds before stuffing it in my binder.
It must have been humiliating to be served in front of thousands of colleagues, but it is true that a person could be served in public if they avoided it previously. That means she could’ve been served at Coachella, where she went to support current boyfriend Harry Styles, and it probably would’ve been much easier since she was there both weekends. Wilde must have avoided that process server like the plague (can I even still use that phrase?), because how else could it have escalated to that?
Usually the client—Sudeikis, in this case—is in on it with their legal team, but he said he “had no prior knowledge” of how Wilde was going to be served.
Furthermore, the managing director of CinemaCon said in a statement: “We have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate has approached the stage who was not authorized to be there. In light of this incident, we are reevaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all our attendees.”
On the plus side of all of this… we got a new still from “Don’t Worry Darling!” Florence Pugh is kind of legendary for being a One Direction fan many moons ago, to now starring in a movie where she is married to Harry Styles.
In other CinemaCon news…
We got a first look at Margot Robbie as the titular role in “Barbie”!! I’m elated to present:
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are also opening on the same day: July 21, 2023. Personally, I am rooting for Greta Gerwig to beat Christopher Nolan at the box office.
The theater adults are theater adulting
Lea Michele, who played hate-crime committer Rachel Berry on “Glee,” shared more about her friendship with Jonathan Groff this week while promoting HBO’s “Spring Awakening” documentary.
Michele told her co-star that she would carry his baby if he wanted children one day because she loves being pregnant. She also showed him her “whole vagina.”
“He was like, 'I've never seen a woman's vagina before. Would you show me?' And I was like, 'Sure.' And I took a desk lamp … and showed him. That's how close we are…. But I've never seen Jonathan naked. I've never seen his penis."
In addition, she might have also hexed Beanie Feldstein… just another week in the life of Lea Michele!
The relationship circuit
Olivia Rodrigo has recently been spotted with 25-year-old Zack Bia, who was previously in a relationship with (and allegedly cheated on) Madison Beer. According to Teen Vogue, they were first linked in February after going to Super Bowl parties together, but photos of them in New York last week have made the rounds on social media.
Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal might be engaged after she apparently called him her fiancé at a Coachella party. Neither of them have confirmed it, but I really want it to be true so I’m including it here. 😇
Try to read this without squinting
Harry Styles revealed the tracklist to his upcoming album, “Harry’s House.” It was a questionable decision from the design team to put thin white text on a bright yellow background, but it was only temporarily a pain to read.
He debuted “Late Night Talking” and “Boyfriends” at Coachella a couple weeks ago. I think I’m most excited to hear “Grapejuice,” “Matilda,” and “Daydreaming.” Do we think he knows how much I love grapes? And grape Outshine bars?
I took a little break last week, but I’m happy to be back. I wrote an intro last week for an interview done by my colleague at The Luna Collective with Inner Wave, a Latinx indie group who performed at Coachella for the first time. And I went to my first drag brunch with my friends yesterday!!
I’m currently reading “Jane Eyre,” and there’s a line in it that says, “April advanced to May: a bright and serene May it was…” I felt completely at peace reading that, maybe because I’ve had a difficult past couple of months, and was looking for a sign that I would feel alright again. Maybe this is your sign too.
Thank you for reading this week! See you next week for Met Gala commentary.
