In this week’s handle with care, Britney is married!!! Plus, the actress playing Madonna in her biopic is revealed.

You know, for someone who regularly writes about “The Bachelor” franchise, I still get a little embarrassed to admit I enjoy watching it. It’s just… bad… and very unserious. I’m actually rewatching Rachel Lindsay’s season on Hulu right now (more on that later) while I wait for Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia’s joint season to debut in one month.
The men that will appear on Windey and Recchia’s season were just announced on a TikTok live of all places, and the complete cast bios were released shortly after. Let’s review the most insane ones!!!
Chris is a “mentality coach,” which is absolutely a front for his real job which seems to be writing. I can safely assume that because one of his fun facts is: “Chris has written two books and says he is his own favorite author.” The mentality coach thing reminds me of Karl from Katie’s season, who was a motivational speaker, so that gives me the ick immediately.
There are two immediate red flags in Alec’s bio: he is a self-proclaimed “lover boy,” and he said that if he could travel back in time, he would go to the 1800s and be an “outlaw cowboy.” First off, I’ve listened to “Get Along Better,” I know you’re a menace!!!! Secondly… ACAB.
James is a meatball enthusiast that wants six kids. Yes, he’s Italian. Also there are a lot of men with J names, so let’s keep the Bachelorettes in our thoughts.
Jordan V. is a drag racer, but not one of RuPaul’s 😒
Termayne is a “crypto guy” from Illinois. According to his bio, there will be “bonus points to anyone who can talk crypto with him. The second a woman says “NFT,” it’s game over.” He also doesn’t like sweets.
And finally, this is who I would give my first impression rose to:
Ethan had a very nice and not scary bio. He says his perfect breakfast is “pancakes and hash browns, extra crispy,” which reminded me of “Keep Driving” by Harry Styles.
While we’re talking about “The Bachelor”
Matt James opened up to the LA Times about his season of the show, which aired last year. James was the first Black Bachelor in the franchise’s history, and his turn was riddled with controversy. The problem with a show like this is that the white target audience doesn’t seem to be interested in conversations about race. So they were left on the cutting room floor:
Instead, the franchise doubled down on harmful stereotypes on James’ season. They brought on his estranged father, exploiting a personal situation of his for the public’s consumption. I mentioned earlier that I’m rewatching Rachel Lindsay’s season for the first time since it was aired, and it is shocking how they similarly treated their first Black lead in 2017. Contestant Dean Unglert told Lindsay when he first met her that he was “ready to go Black,” and that he’s “never gonna go back.” (Yes, he’s dating a white woman now.) Then there was the racist, sexist, homophobic contestant that was cast on her season for some reason, who on the show said he liked one Black contestant before he started “screaming” at someone in the Bachelor mansion. All this to say that it’s obvious how little care this show has for BIPOC leads and contestants.
Britney is married <3
Britney Spears married Sam Asghari in a small ceremony on Thursday. Guests in attendance included Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Madonna.
Spears’ first husband Jason Alexander (not the one that plays George Costanza on “Seinfeld”) was arrested after he crashed her wedding while livestreaming himself on Instagram.
While we’re talking about Madonna
Julia Garner beat out actresses including Alexa Demie and Florence Pugh for the titular role in the upcoming Madonna biopic. Variety exclusively reported the news, saying that Garner was the frontrunner the whole time.
Breaking Awards Season Update
The Grammys added the following new categories for next year’s ceremony:
Songwriter Of The Year (Non-Classical)
Best Alternative Music Performance
Best Americana Music Performance
Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media
Best Spoken Word Poetry Album
There is also a new Special Merit Award for Best Song for Social Change. They actually waited to do this 13 years after Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Jonas Brothers released “Send It On.”
The Academy also has a rule going into effect that albums that are nominated have to have “more than 75 percent playing time of newly recorded, previously unreleased recordings.” They have to be within five years of the original release date. That means no “Taylor’s Version” albums are eligible, but we can and should give a Grammy to “All Too Well (10-Minute Version).”
Hello!!! I hope everyone is doing well! I have been on Beyoncé-watch the whole weekend since I saw PopCrave tweet about her social media profiles being wiped. Anyway, later tonight I’m watching the “Barry” season finale and the new “Riverdale” episode. Thanks for reading 💚
