In this week’s handle with care, Bennifer’s engagement and Andrew Garfield’s breakup.
April 7, 2012 was a Very Important Day for early One Direction fans: “iCarly” day, and “Saturday Night Live” day. “iCarly” was One Direction’s first time acting, leading to Harry Styles’ nascent acting career. Arguably, the best part of having older siblings is partaking in the culture they discover from a young age. I started watching “SNL” when I was 12, when most of the jokes flew over my head, but I didn’t care because I could look at Andy Samberg. You can imagine how I feel about the Jason Sudeikis and Harry Styles of it all today…
This day was kind of the perfect in to become a One Direction fan, and I found them at the right time. I think I even went to Target that weekend to buy the “Up All Night” album. I touched on this when I talked about “Turning Red” last month, but ultimately what stanning a boyband led to was long-term friendships, and it made it so easy to make new friends in college. And maybe that was also because I own four Niall Horan t-shirts, and I proudly wear them all out in public.
The shared experience of enjoying something on this scale was once in a generation, and it really bonded people, especially through social media. How do I explain to other people why this was one of my first liked posts on Instagram? There are so many layers to it:
I don’t think I could have ever imagined the life I’m living right now, ten years ago. I firmly believe that my adolescence helped shape me into who I am today, and I try to be grateful for all those experiences.
Vanessa Hudgens Fest Updates
Kanye West dropped out of his performance slot at Coachella early last week. It is unclear why he decided to bail on the festival.
The Weeknd was brought in to replace West, and Swedish House Mafia was bumped up to headline alongside him on Sunday night. Page Six exclusively reported that festival organizers offered The Weeknd significantly less pay to take over, and that the singer wouldn’t accept if he wasn’t getting the same $8.5 million reserved for West.
Somebody, please get me on Raya QUICKLY!!!
On Monday, news broke that Andrew Garfield and model Alyssa Miller had split due to busy work schedules. The TL celebrated until she posted this on Instagram:
Miller captioned the post: “If you must gossip at least use a cute photo. Lol love you AG.” However, People reported the following day that the breakup was for real, and that it happened about a month ago. The timeline seems accurate, because Miller was Garfield’s plus-one at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Feb. 27, but he was solo at the Oscars exactly one month later.
Bennifer is engaged (again)
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are now engaged for a second time, one year after they reunited. This “Marry Me” promo is just too good. Lopez posted this video to her social media:
Her engagement ring has a light green stone, while her first engagement ring from Affleck had a light pink stone. My mom and I are rooting for them!!!
The Television Academy announced that this year’s Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 12, on NBC. Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 12.
I recently started watching “Succession,” and “The Dropout” is next on my Notes app watchlist, and I feel like those will definitely get nominations. I’m really hoping “Abbott Elementary” and “The Afterparty” are recognized at the Emmys this year. I also want “Impeachment: American Crime Story” to get a nomination or two, even though it came out at the beginning of this year’s eligibility period.
Jack Harlow… suffice it to say… I get it now! Finally, someone who understands the genius of “Glamorous” by Fergie!
I was listening to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” yesterday, because somehow it’s already been a year since it was released. And this week it was too hot in Southern California for me to wear my long sleeve “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” shirt!! Thanks for reading this short newsletter this week 💚
